As the Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) Officer at the Women of Uganda Network [8], Moses Owiny supports programs for low-income rural women that focus on disseminating information to women farmers through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
During his CSP fellowship, Moses worked with the YWCA of Genesee County [9], training rural women in upstate New York on the use of technology and other critical job skills.
Upon returning to Uganda, Moses implemented his follow-on project which aimed at strengthening linkages across the value chain to farmers through the use of ICTs, providing opportunities for farmers to sell produce at better prices and in larger quantities, and teaching women’s farmer groups better agricultural practices. The project benefited 120 women farmers in Apac Township, and used radio, remote and in-person trainings to disseminate information to the women farmers about best practices in agriculture and how to use text and mobile technology to better connect to buyers. The project also extended ICT training to women and youth entrepreneurs in Kampala through the Women Entrepreneurs of Uganda Network (WOUGNET).
