Kathy Evans' bio
As the Civil Society Division Director, Kathy provides leadership and oversight to a team of development professionals and an extensive portfolio of more than 20 U.S. government and privately-funded programs focused on citizen engagement, advocacy, youth and women’s empowerment, conflict mediation, technology, and NGO capacity-building programs in Africa, Asia, Eurorpe & Eurasia and the Middle East. Kathy has contributed to developing IREX's expansive portfolio of civil society programs that range from youth peace building in the North Caucuses, supporting local organizations in post-conflict Liberia to promoting child welfare in Kazakhstan. Kathy specializes in strategic planning, new business development, and organizational management.
In addition to her work at IREX, Kathy has also worked on community development, small enterprise development, gender, informal education, environment, HIV/AIDS, and reproductive health programs at international development organizations and for USAID, the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, and the World Bank. Kathy has an M.S. in Ecology and Statistics and a B.S. in Zoology from Brigham Young University.
Kathy spent more than 12 years living in Africa and the Caribbean, including Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana and St. Vincent and the Grenadines and was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Tanzania.
