James Byaruhanga is Project Manager for the Literacy for Improved Capacity of Civil Society where he provides adult literacy and transparency and accountability trainings to CBOs. He also links CBOs to the local government to increase communications between the public and private sectors.
While in the U.S., James worked for the College of Saint Rose’s Institute for Community Research and Training [7] in Albany, New York, where he worked closely with Albany-based CSOs to build their organizational capacity and develop their strategic plans.
Upon returning to Uganda, James is planning on using a model he created to help bring project beneficiaries into the conversation on development program design and monitoring in hopes of strengthening program sustainability and impact. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency, as well as the Nakapiripirit Local Government District, have expressed great interest in using this approach in future program designs and evaluations.
