At the National Student Christian Council in Liberia, Isatu Ville coordinates projects that engage young women in local and national politics; encourages women’s participation in community life and leadership activities; and provides a forum from which to advocate for issues that affect Liberian women.
While in the U.S., Isatu worked with the DC-based civic and voter education organization Rock the Vote [8], where she provided support to the organization’s communications strategy and civic education programs for U.S. high school students.
Upon returning to Liberia, Isatu implemented her follow-on project which aimed to foster a sense of community service and civic participation among Liberian youth in three high schools. The project consisted of a series of classroom workshops and a school club that served as a platform for youth-led dialogue and project design. Eight student leaders were appointed and were responsible for youth-led activities in the community. Through their leadership, over 900 of their school peers were reached and subsequently engaged in a variety of service learning activities.
