Heang Thy works for Cambodians for Resource Revenue Transparency as the organization’s Communications Officer, where she manages public outreach and relations efforts. Her work aims at increasing the transparency of the extractive industries in Cambodia.
During her time in the U.S., Heang worked for the Great Basin Resource Watch [6] in Reno, Nevada, providing support to the organization’s community outreach and awareness campaigns and examining the legal context of the mining industry in the state.
Upon returning to Cambodia, Heang implemented her follow-on project which aimed to increase the transparency of the extractive industries sector through increasing dialogue among non-governmental organizations working in this sector and strengthening their capacity to advocate for transparency reforms. In the summer of 2012, Heang, along with Cambodians for Resource Revenue Transparency, implemented the training program with 25 participants of the NGO community focusing on promoting social accountability in the extractive industries sector.
