As Program Manager at the African Network for the Prevention and Protection Against Child Abuse [8] (ANPPCAN), Alvin Winford has worked on a number of programs that aim to mitigate gender-based violence in local Liberian communities.
During his CSP fellowship, Alvin worked with Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence [9]in San Jose, California where he worked on and was trained in grant writing, case management, advocacy and counseling.
Upon returning to Liberia, Alvin implemented his follow-on project which strived to increase women and girl participation in local political decision-making and decrease violence against women. He implemented a series of trainings targeting both women and men on the importance of female political participation as well as domestic violence awareness and included a monthly community meeting designed to monitor and prevent violence against women and girls. Eighty-two women and 58 men were reached during the trainings. All project components were implemented through ANPPCAN and will be scaled up to eight additional communities in 2013.
