Abel Hurtado Espinoza works with Empresa Minera Vancouver as the company's Manager Consultant where he liaises between the company and the surrounding communities in order to promote human rights awareness, sustainable development, and conflict resolution strategies. Abel is a professor of human and environmental rights at San Pedro University, as well as Associate at the Peruvian law firm, Estudio Jurídico Peñaranda.
While in the U.S., Abel worked at the National Congress of American Indians [7] (NCAI) where he developed a research proposal to bring an international perspective to the NCAI, designed to enhance the organization’s interest in becoming more engaged in the field of indigenous peoples rights worldwide.
After returning to Peru, Abel founded Professionals Without Borders, an organization aimed at bringing together a team of young and inspiring professionals from Peru to address local issues related to human rights, conflict and environmental law. The members serve as consultants for community projects, lead community trainings and provide pro bono services to community development organizations.
