Congratulations to Maria Sonevystky, the winner of this year's US Scholar Photo Contest!
Maria Sonevytsky was a 2008-2009 Individual Advanced Research Opportunities (IARO) fellow. Her research project was entitled "Civilizing Wilderness: Musical Practices as Political and Economic Resources in Contemporary Ukraine [12]."
We would like to thank all the IREX alumni, who participated in this contest, and shared images of their research experience in the field.
The photo contest runners-up are Maria Bucur-Deckard (below, left) and Nathaniel Wood, both former Short-Term Travel Grant (STG) [13] fellows. Eligible US Scholar Photo Contest participants were alumni of the IARO [14], STG [13], and US Embassy Policy Specialist Program (EPS) [15] fellowships.
All of these programs are part of IREX's long-standing support for research and exchange in Europe and Eurasia during the past 40 years. Over 6,000 American scholars have participated in the programs since.
