Pakistani Undergraduate Students Arrive in US for Semester Exchange

This week 50 undergraduate fellows from Pakistan began their semester in the United States through the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in Pakistan (Global UGRAD-Pakistan [7]). The fellows participated in an orientation program in Washington, DC where they learned cultural adaptation skills and financial and time management for undergraduate students, as well as other program and cultural knowledge. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs Alina Romanowski [8] welcomed and congratulated the fellows on behalf of the US Department of State.

Launched in fall 2010, the Global UGRAD-Pakistan program provides a substantive exchange experience at a US college or university to a diverse group of 100 emerging student leaders from Pakistan with the goal of increasing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of Pakistan. Global UGRAD-Pakistan fellows engage in one semester of non-degree study and will study at more than 35 accredited two- and four-year higher education institutions in over 25 states. Fellows also take part in local community service projects, engage in cultural enrichment activities on and off campus, and complete an American Studies course.

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in Pakistan is funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, US Department of State, and administered by IREX.
