To remain competitive in the global economy, there is an increasing need for globally-aware young learners who are able to understand their peers in other countries and think critically outside of traditional subject areas. Creative, motivated educators are taking the lead in preparing these students, often despite large class sizes and limited resources. Some of these teachers use online tools to enable youth from the U.S. and nations as far away as Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to see literally into each other’s classrooms.
Other teachers from North Dakota to Argentina are meeting face-to-face, exchanging best practices in teaching and experiencing cultural differences that bring them closer together. They are also bringing back valuable new lessons and methods for both their students and their colleagues. No matter the medium, the learning experience promoted by these teachers transcends the traditional lecture and motivates students to become more engaged in their own learning.
Therefore, on World Teachers’ Day, October 5, IREX celebrates the talented educators we work with in the United States and around the globe. Their passion for teaching continues to prepare their students for an increasingly globalized world and motivates their colleagues to continually improve their professional standards. IREX would like to highlight the excellent work they are doing. Please read and watch several stories about their successes, and be sure to thank them for what they do to bring quality education to all students around the world.
