IREX is proud to welcome 63 master teachers from 15 countries around world to the U.S. to begin their participation in the International Leaders in Education Program [3] (ILEP).
Since 2005, ILEP has brought outstanding secondary school teachers to U.S. universities for five months to further expand their knowledge of teaching methodologies, develop their expertise in a scholastic content area, and deepen their understanding of the U.S.
During the four-day Welcome Program in Washington, D.C., teachers participated in training sessions on Cross-Cultural Communication, Teacher Leadership, and Foundations of the U.S. Education System.
Participants also heard welcome remarks from Branch Chief of Teacher Exchanges Jennifer Gibson on behalf of the US Department of State.
Following the Welcome Program, participants are hosted at U.S. universities where they audit graduate-level courses, participate in a customized technology training seminar, and design a professional development module on engaging and relevant teaching methods for colleagues back home. ILEP teachers will also partner with a U.S. teacher in a secondary school classroom for mutually-beneficial professional exchange and development. The 2012 cohort of ILEP participants will study at Clemson University [4], South Carolina; James Madison University [5], Virginia; Kent State University [6], Ohio; and the University of Alabama at Huntsville [7].
To learn more about the impact of ILEP, visit the project page [3] and check out the recent news stories. A recent ILEP alumnae returned home to the Philippines and trained her fellow teachers on active learning methods. Read her story here [8].
The International Leaders in Education Program [3] (ILEP) is funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs [9] of the U.S. Department of State and implemented by IREX.
