Maksim Hajiyev’s work prior to coming to the United States to earn an MBA at Duquesne University involved developing information systems for nonprofit and humanitarian agencies.
When searching for a community service project, Mr. Hajiyev was intent on finding a project that combined his skills and experience in information management with the opportunity to provide a lasting benefit to the Pittsburgh community. After evaluating several options, Mr. Hajiyev found the perfect project through the Duquesne University Volunteers.
Duquesne University, through the Duquesne University Volunteers program and the Office of Service-Learning, partners with many nongovernmental organizations and community groups in the Pittsburgh area. As their work has expanded, so has their need for an information system capable of searching and processing community services and volunteer activities. Mr. Hajiyev will create and implement a system to “enable multiple institutions to submit and search variety service-related activities. The system will also provide external and internal reporting to partner institutions and organizations.”
The system developed by Mr. Hajiyev will create “numerous opportunities for collaborative community development” and will allow for the coordination of “thousands of volunteer assignments in a variety of fields,” increasing the ability of local organizations to positively impact the Pittsburgh community.
