TEA consists of a six-week academic program at a U.S. university, including intensive training in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, teaching strategies for their home environment, teacher leadership, as well as the use of computers for Internet, word processing and as tools for teaching. The program also includes field experience at a secondary school to engage participants actively with American teachers and students.
The TEA fellowship provides the following:
• J-1 visa support
• A pre-departure orientation held in your home country
• Round-trip airfare from your home city to, and within, the U.S.
• A Welcome Program in Washington, D.C.
• A six-week university professional development program
• Housing (generally shared with other program participants) and meals
• Accident and sickness health coverage
• A baggage allowance to cover domestic travel checked luggage costs
• A maintenance allowance will be allocated for six weeks to cover the costs of incidental expenses such as laundry, medicine, etc.
• A book allowance will be allocated towards purchasing books and educational materials
• An End-of-Program Workshop in Washington, D.C.
• The opportunity to apply for alumni small grants
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Be secondary school-level, full-time teachers with five or more years of classroom experience in TEA teaching disciplines: English as a Foreign Language, Social Studies, Mathematics, or Science
• Have proficiency in written and spoken English with a TOEFL score of 450 or higher
• For the program year 2014, be citizens of and residents in eligible TEA countries:
Africa: Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Zambia
East Asia and the Pacific: Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam
Europe and Eurasia: Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine
Near East: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Tunisia, West Bank/Gaza, Yemen
South and Central Asia: Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan
Western Hemisphere: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Venezuela
Eligible countries are subject to change.
Former participants of ILEP, TEA, Partners in Education (PiE) or the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program are ineligible to apply. If you have participated in other programs funded by the US government, please talk to the Fulbright Commission/US Embassy in your country about your eligibility.
