Robert Cronin

Vice President

Rob oversees a portfolio of more than 20 projects with a pipeline of more than $100 million in more than 20 countries. Whether it’s youth activists in Lebanon, technology training in Yemen, or local NGOs in Liberia, IREX’s civil society development projects focus on empowering its local partners, building community capacity, and engaging citizens in democratic governance. Rob specializes in NGO trainings, peace-building in conflict zones, and applying innovative technologies to civil society development.

Celebrating almost 15 years working with IREX in a variety of positions and postings, Rob's positions have included Director of Partnerships and Training, Director of Development and Strategic Planning, and a posting overseas as the Chief of Party for the IREX Central Asia Civil Society Initiative.

Prior to working with IREX, Rob’s experience included working as Deputy Director of the American Collegiate Consortium at Middlebury College; Field Producer for ABC News in Moscow; and Consultant and translator for business entrepreneurs in Russia.

Rob received an MA in Russian Studies from Princeton University, a BA in Political Science and Russian Studies from Amherst College, and did post-graduate research at Moscow State University.

You may not know...

Rob is fluent in Russian, ran the New York Marathon in under 4 hours, and can’t stand eggplant. He once played soccer with a jubilant Boris Yeltsin at the 1992 celebration of Russia National Independence Day.
