Ricky Anywar

Ricky Anywar is Founder and President of Friends of Orphans in Uganda, working to reintegrate child soldiers into their home communities, train IDPs in managing and resolving disputes, and increase food production in local areas. 

While in the U.S., Ricky worked at Fellowship of Reconciliation where he analyzed conflicts and surrounding resources in Chicago and studied their relationship to food deserts, displacements and population density.

After returning to Uganda, Ricky's follow-on project aimed to reduce conflict within the communities of Agago District and increase food production for improved food security. The project provided training to 200 youth, the majority of whom were women, on improved agriculture practices and animal husbandry skills. They also trained 45 former child soldiers in conflict resolution skills to become peace scouts, and 18 peace animators and 15 traditional leaders to serve on parish-level reconciliation committees to help in peacebuilding programs and support the peace scouts.
