Neetha Tangirala

Program Officer

Neetha supports IREX’s work to increase public access to information by strengthening public libraries systems. She specifically works with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded Global Libraries programs in Romania and Ukraine, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation's work in Namibia.

Prior to joining IREX, Neetha served as a Grants Officer at Amnesty International in London where she managed funding for Eastern Europe and Asia, working closely with Section Directors to develop work aligned with "Movement" priorities. After leaving Amnesty in 2012, Neetha traveled to Myanmar (Burma) where she spent time teaching at a monastic school and working with ethnic community organizations.

In 2007, Neetha lived in Sudan and taught at Universities in Khartoum, while assisting CHF International with their income generating project for women in Darfur. From 2008 to 2010, Neetha managed the Sudan grant program at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), where she evaluated current grantee work and identified new civil society organizations to support. She also served as a short-term observer with Carter Center to monitor the South Sudan Referendum polling process.

Neetha has a BA in Business Administration from the University of Texas and an MSc in International and European Politics from the University of Edinburgh. She speaks fluent Telugu and some Arabic.

Neetha enjoys taking the bus while reading Agatha Christie, and recommends Beirut to Damascus as a ride to remember. She also enjoys biking very slowly, basically at a glacial pace, and recommends the city of Bagan in Myanmar for the ultimate experience.
