Mu’amar Orabi

Mu’amar Orabi, Palestine, is the general director of Wattan TV, a secular station based in Ramallah established as a non‐profit outlet to represent the voice of civil society in the West Bank and Gaza. Under his leadership, Wattan TV has succeeded in raising its viewership to become the most popular local TV station. The station has faced advertising boycotts by local businesses because of critical coverage, a raid by the Israeli Defense Force, and politically motivated libel suits by Palestinian political figures in response to investigative reports. It was recently the first Palestinian media outlet to be awarded the Boazzizi Transparency and Integrity Award from the local member organization of Transparency International.
