Matej Novak
Matej manages the Bibliomist project, which helps communities in Ukraine by modernizing access to information in public libraries.
As part of the project, over one-thousand libraries are being equipped with technology so that citizens have better access to information, and over three thousand librarians are being trained to provide better services. Bibliomist is a part of the Global Libraries initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Prior to joining Bibliomist, Matej has worked on projects in Europe and Asia. He started as a manager of post-conflict programs in Chechnya and Abkhazia with international NGOs and later consulted organizations such as the United Nations in Afghanistan and the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Sri Lanka in implementation of good governance projects. While Matej’s professional experience is diverse, he has gained most experience in the educational sector.
Matej holds a BA from Charles University in Prague, an MA from Central European University in Budapest, and an MA from George Washington University in Washington, DC. He focused on International Relations and Eastern Europe.
You may not know...
Matej spends most of his evenings in Kiev learning and dancing salsa. He even participated in a dancing contest on behalf of his favorite club Carribean. He lost but plans to win next year.
