Martin Mwanga
CSP Leader - Uganda

As Coordinator with the Teso Children’s Development Foundation, Martin Mwanga works to provide a safe, secure, and healthy environment for street children through peace education programs and sports activities.

While in the U.S., Martin worked with Peace First Boston's network of schools to support AmeriCorps volunteers in their teaching skills and improving their classroom climates while supporting the regional Peace First team in completing and collecting school surveys and data entry.

Upon returning to Uganda, Martin's follow-on project addressed the need for increased advocacy and protection of street and vulnerable children in Soroti Municipality. With significant guidance and mentorship from Peace First, the project trained 75 security officials from four private security firms in child protection, children’s rights, and non-violent ways of approaching street children. A quick response alarm desk phone was set-up that 15 community child protection mobilisers were trained to use and distribute the number for. The project reached out to the general public about child protection through radio and by holding seminars at three elementary schools within Soroti district.
