Program Director, Media and Technology for Community Development Program in Iraq

Jacky is the new Country Director and Program Director for the Media and Technology for Community Development Program in Iraq. She joins IREX from UNDP Iraq, where she was media and media/elections projects manager.

Prior to joining UNDP in January 2008, Jacky was regional communications advisor for UNESCO in Central Asia (Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Iran) and West Africa (Benin, Togo, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Liberia).

Jacky was once a journalist, working as a correspondent for the BBC World Service and freelancing for Deutsche Welle, Vatican Radio and various print publications such as the Economist Intelligence Unit and African Business.

Jacky’s transition from journalism to media development was made in Eritrea, where she was sent on a short term assignment for BBC but ended up staying five years as an employee of the Eritrean Ministry of Information training journalists and writing for the new English language newspaper Eritrea Profile. She was deported but returned to clear her name of spying charges and ended up in Massawa for another two years in charge of a municipal library project.
