Elizabeth Knight

Senior Program Officer


Elizabeth transferred to the Washington, DC office in June 2012 to support the teacher training team. She originally joined IREX in October 2012 as the Country Director/Education Programs Manager in Ukraine. There, she oversaw operations of the local office, which, in addition to the education programs, included the Global Libraries (Bibliomist) and Ukraine Media Partnership programs. She continues to supervise the local education programs team that administers the Muskie, Global UGRAD, Crimea UGRAD, University Administration Support and Title VIII American scholar programs, as well as alumni activities in Ukraine.

Elizabeth has spent most of her career engaged in development projects in the Eurasia region. Prior to joining IREX, Elizabeth was the field operations manager for multi-million dollar capacity building and anti-corruption programs for national-level government agencies with the U.S. Department of Justice/ICITAP and OPDAT programs in Ukraine and Moldova. She also spent two years in Washington, DC working on democracy and governance programs in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. She first experienced Ukraine as a secondary-school teacher with the US Peace Corps in Severodonetsk, Lugansk Oblast.

You may not know...

Before she had to leave her stick behind for the Peace Corps, Elizabeth was captain of the Notre Dame women's lacrosse team. Her attempts at leading a women's lacrosse revolution in Severodonetsk were defeated by high-heels and mini-skirts.
