Chamunorwa Mashoko
CSP Leader - Zimbabwe

As a Community Educator working for the University of Zimbabwe, Chamunorwa Mashoko coordinates HIV/AIDS education campaigns, community trainings in HIV prevention strategies, and the distribution of information on the latest HIV/AIDS research to local communities.

While in the U.S., Chamunorwa worked with the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA) on making research results accessible to the public and training communities on the importance of participating in clinical trials.

Upon returning to Zimbabwe, Chamunorwa implemented his follow-on project whereby he built a coalition of civil society organizations that influenced the government of Zimbabwe and other partners to increase and continue funding for HIV treatment and prevention. The project was implemented as part of a larger initiative called “Treatment as Prevention” supported by AVAC, Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention, through the organization's HIV Advocacy Fellowship. The project brought together a coalition of likeminded organizations, and was able to successfully secure 39 million USD from PEPFAR for HIV programming in Zimbabwe for fiscal year 2012.
