Azizbek Omorkulov
Azizbek Omorkulov is co-founder of the Kyrgyz Bankers Community, where he has helped spearhead a grassroots initiative to increase transparency and accountability within the Kyrgyzstan banking system.
During his time in the U.S., Azizbek worked with Clark Atlanta University’s School of Business Administration, assisting the office in its efforts to provide economic assistance to the surrounding community as well as helping develop the school’s future graduate school of banking.
After returning to Kyrgyzstan, Azizbek implemented his follow-on project which aimed to foster development and information sharing of the banking sector through creating and maintaining a public web platform. The project had a significant impact on the country’s micro-credit institutions by providing a space for these smaller financial institutions to more effectively communicate with the country’s regulatory bodies. This was an unexpected outcome and will guide the way in which the project moves forward in the future, as the site will look to engage an increasing number of professionals from the micro-credit sector.
