Amy Ahearn

Program Officer, Education Programs Division

Amy Ahearn joined IREX in 2009 and currently serves as a program officer for the International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) and the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) for Turkey, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Amy has guided the development of IREX's training programs for pre-service and early career teachers and manages a component of the TEA Program for young Turkish educators.

She also works closely with U.S. Embassies and Fulbright Commissions in Asia, the Middle East, and South America to bring teachers to the United States for semester-long training programs at U.S. universities. A member of IREX's Technology for Development Community of Practice, Amy is interested in innovative applications for technology in basic education and frequently leads webinar trainings for teachers around the world.

Prior to joining IREX, Amy was a Fulbright grantee in Malaysia where she taught English to primary students at an Islamic school. She has lived and studied in south India and traveled to many parts of Asia. In addition to her experiences abroad, Amy has served as an ESL curriculum writer for Literacy Volunteers of Maine and worked with Somali and Sudanese refugee students in Portland.

Amy was a track captain at Bowdoin College and now runs the Boston Marathon every year.
