Book drives, schools visits, and virtual chats are among the myriad events that IREX will host this week, November 13-17, to mark International Education Week (IEW). IEW is a joint initiative of the US Departments of State and Education to recognize and further promote the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries. Each year IREX celebrates IEW by coordinating events throughout Eurasia to raise awareness about international education and exchanges. Listed below are some of the events we will be holding this year:

Armenia: IREX will hold a book drive for Nubarashen Boarding School, and, with the help of students and volunteers, expects to collect over 150 books to supplement the school’s library.

Azerbaijan: Students in the community will be invited to participate in a roundtable with business and community leaders to discuss international careers and the benefits of international exchange.

Georgia: Education professionals will meet with alumni working in the same field to discuss educational reforms in Georgia.

Kazakhstan: Alumni in Almaty and other Kazakh cities will hold seminars for the public to discus the benefits of studying in America. They will also share tips for applying to exchange programs.

Kyrgyzstan: Students and education professionals across the country will be invited to participate in Internet chats to learn about international education opportunities. Topics will include online education resources (Russian and Kyrgyz), graduate study opportunities in the United States, and “Meet the Visa Officer.”

Moldova: IREX and the Ministry of Education will host a joint event to explore the development of higher education in Moldova. IREX international exchange alumni will share their insights from their experiences studying in the United States.

Russia & Ukraine: Alumni will conduct presentations in secondary schools in their native towns throughout the country. Alumni will talk about differences in their own and American educational systems, life on a US campus and internships in America. Alumni will present their opinions on the importance of learning foreign languages, participating in various international programs, and sharing their native culture with people from all over the world.

Tajikistan: A guest lecture series for students and parents will be held featuring discussions about international exchange opportunities, test taking, and scholarships.

Turkmenistan: IREX will host a workshop for high school and college students to teach skills for finding and applying for international exchange opportunities.
