IREX Awarded Grant for a New Professional Development Program for Teachers from Eurasia and South Asia

WASHINGTON, DC – August 22, 2006 - IREX has been awarded a grant by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State to administer the Eurasia/South Asia Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA). TEA will provide outstanding secondary school teachers from Eurasia and South Asia with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States.
IREX will partner with US universities to host international teachers in spring and fall, 2007 for a six-week, in-service professional development program on teaching methodology, curriculum development, and educational leadership. American secondary schools will also host these international educators for professional internships. US teachers’ reciprocal visits will follow each of the US professional development programs. Also, IREX will provide follow-on grants to the international teachers to jump-start education reform and collaborative education projects in their home schools.
