
IREX Celebrates International Education Week
November 18 to 22 is International Education Week. In honor of this, IREX is holding several events internationally, including seminars, alumni fairs, and discussions. Below is a list of selected IREX activities. November 18-22
The Education Information Centers (EIC) in both Moscow and Vladivostok,
Russia, will host a number of events to encourage local scholars and students
to investigate international education opportunities. The Moscow EIC will
also hold an essay contest for local students. The students will be asked
to write about the value of international education.

ECA alumni from Kyrgyzstan will travel to Talas and Kara-Kol to deliver
seminars aimed at teaching local students how to prepare for international
education opportunities, such as writing project proposals and statements
of purpose and how to present oneself in an interview. The Educational
Information Center will also conduct outreach on US study abroad opportunities
through radio and television interviews, a small education fair, and lectures
at universities and high schools in Bishkek.
November 19
In Minsk, Belarus, alumni will meet to discuss contemporary trends in
education, including the role international education plays in modern
higher education.

Alumni in Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine will participate in a virtual
conference to discuss the successes and challenges they faced during their
experiences abroad and upon their return from the United States to their
home countries.

In Tbilisi, Georgia, alumni of various ECA programs will come together
for an Alumni Program Fair. The fair, which is cosponsored by the American
Councils for International Education (ACTR/ACCELS), will provide alumni
with a forum to share information on their international education experiences
with interested scholars, students, and administrators, as well as with
each other. There will also be a virtual chat between the US government-funded
American Academy of Tbilisi (grades 9-12) and the Dublin Coffman High
School in Dublin, Ohio. Additionally, the IREX-administered Internet Access
and Training Program (IATP) will sponsor a Web chat among teachers from
throughout Georgia, the Director of the State Department of Computerization,
and the Minister of Education on Georgia's push to create computer learning
centers in schools throughout Georgia.

ECA alumni and staff from the Alumni Resource Center in Balti, Moldova,
will inform local students about how to apply to US universities, how
to apply for fellowship opportunities, and how to prepare for and take
standardized tests.
November 20
Alumni in Kyiv, Ukraine, will also participate in an alumni fair, where
they will be encouraged to share their international education experiences
with interested local scholars, students, and other alumni.
November 21
In Moscow, alumni and American scholars currently conducting research
in Russia will visit a local school to discuss international education
and how the American school system differs from the Russian system.
November 22
In Tashkent, Uzbekistan, alumni will come together to participate in a
roundtable discussion on the benefits and merits of international education.
November 22
In Yerevan, Armenia, alumni of various ECA programs will meet with university
students, faculty and administrators to discuss the merits of international
education, drawing on their own experiences while studying in the United
States.

ECA alumni in Chisinau, Moldova, will meet with US Ambassador to Moldova
Pamela Smith to discuss the importance of international education programs
and share their own international education experiences.
