New Online Russian-Kazakh Dictionary

January 2002

The Internet Access and Training Program (IATP) and the design team of Index.kz have developed the largest online Russian-Kazakh dictionary, including over 159,000 entries. The website can be found at: http://www.kz.index.kz.

Many of the Kazakh words have sound files attached to them so that people can hear a native speaker pronouncing Kazakh. With over 95,000 Russian words and phrases and almost 64,000 corresponding Kazakh words and phrases, this resource promises to be useful for all who are familiar with Russian but also wish to learn some Kazakh.

IATP maintains a network of public Internet access sites across Central Asia, strengthening indigenous institutions and providing targeted individual training to US government alumni and other target audiences. Participants visit these community centers and gain free access to e-mail and the Internet. Additionally, the program empowers end-users, encouraging them to publish online, create new websites, join electronic mailing lists, and network internationally and within the community. IATP is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State.
