Librarians in Ukraine are promoting the ideals of a “modern library” and helping to change perspectives about their role in the community. A recent national survey revealed citizens there, more and more, think of the library as a place to use computers and receive technical training. The data demonstrate that modern libraries are becoming an indispensable component for people in the area.
More than 2,500 citizens from all oblasts in Ukraine and in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea were interviewed in person. The survey sought to determine changes in information search patterns, perception of librarian’s assistance, user satisfaction scores, awareness of computer availability at libraries, use of trainings and workshops, and awareness of social advertisement of libraries through various communication channels. It is a continuation of previous surveys to measure use of libraries in the country.
