IREX Presents Results of the Survey of Women and Ethnicity in the Media in Kosovo

As part of the Kosovo Media Assistance Program (KMAP) – a three-year program sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) – IREX and its subcontractor EnCompass LLC conducted a study of women and ethnicity in the media in Kosovo. An important component of KMAP is improving reporting on gender and ethnic/interethnic issues by encouraging increased coverage of these issues, developing awareness among journalists of their importance, and building skills for reporting on them in a productive and positive manner. The purpose of the study was to gather baseline census data and perceptions of Kosovar journalists on the status of women and ethnicity in the media, and to identify obstacles to and opportunities for progress. This information was collected through an online survey of media managers and editors, an online survey of female journalists, and a series of five focus group interviews with media managers, editors and female journalists of different ethnicities.

The findings were presented to the media and the NGO community in Pristina on June 30, and the full report is available for download by visiting: KMAP Survey on Women and Ethnicity in the Media (PDF, 601KB)
