IREX welcomes the observance of International Education Week, November 15 to 19, a joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchanges worldwide. As an administrator of international exchange programs and technology programs that bring countries and their diverse experiences closer together, IREX undertakes a series of activities to showcase these benefits.
Throughout International Education Week, USG alumni offer practical advice to potential applicants of USG programs, discuss how their exchange experiences helped them grow both professionally and personally, and recall their experiences of life in the United States. In Armenia, for example, the Yerevan Educational Advising Center will sponsor a discussion of international education programs with US embassy assistant public affairs officer Rian Harris, and alumni of USG educational programs will describe community service opportunities.
And the Internet Access and Training Program (IATP) focuses this week on using technology to transcend boundaries and share national experiences among audiences as diverse as orphans, Junior Achievement students, and teachers seeking to share and learn best practices. In Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, USG alumni in the education field, together with IATP staff, will conduct a regional Internet chat to compare grading systems in the United States and the Central Asian republics.
IREX International Education Week activities will take place in many countries and cities, and we invite you to see our activity list by country.
