IREX Joins #GivingTuesday Movement
IREX is pleased to join the new movement to create an annual day of giving. Giving Tuesday “is a national campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.” This year, following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, on Tuesday November 27, 2012 hundreds of organizations, thousands of communities and individuals will focus on acts of giving.
IREX is now a partner alongside 400 other impressive groups including nonprofits such as Africare, the American Red Cross, Charity: Water, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, The Nature Conservancy, and United Nations Foundation; fundraising platforms such as GlobalGiving, and Kiva; and companies such as Blackbaud, Darden Restaurants, Groupon, Mashable, Microsoft, Skype, and Unilever.
As a partner organization and a registered charitable nonprofit, IREX will participate in Giving Tuesday by both giving and offering opportunities for others to give. On Tuesday November 27, 2012, IREX will announce the charitable organization chosen by staff to receive the proceeds from the annual staff silent auction with matching funds donated by IREX.
IREX combines support from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individuals to help over half a million people a year. IREX will publish and distribute stories highlighting its work around the world and encouraging others to give generously at www.irex.org/donate so that together we can do more to:
· Give youth practical career skills to lift themselves out of poverty:
· Amplify the voices of local women leaders;
· Connect rural towns and villages to the world and each other via social media and community radio; and
· Help educators in the U.S. and around the globe to prepare their students for the 21st century.
IREX President Ambassador W. Robert Pearson commented, “I am pleased IREX is part of this important movement, alongside other nonprofit leaders. Giving Tuesday is perfectly aligned with our mission and truly a way to Make a Better World.”
