IREX Hosts Events in the Support of UNESCO Education for All Week

IREX celebrates and supports UNESCO's Education for All Week, April 24-30 2005. IREX will host a series of forums this week on basic education accessibility and equality across Armenia and Central Asia. IREX education programs give individuals and institutions in transitioning and developing countries the resources and support needed to achieve their goals in developing their communities to improve learning through better teachers, better textbooks, and gender equality. We invite you to see our activity list below for IREX Education for All Week activities.

1. April 25-30.

"Is Education Equally Available to Everyone in Armenia?". During the Educational Equality session, regional government officials will come together to discuss educational equality in Armenia and will offer suggestions on how to improve teaching in schools. Teacher trainers from IREX’s Elementary and Middle Level Curriculum Development and Teacher Education Projects, sponsored by the United States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs ( ECA), will participate in the discussion, which will take place at several of IREX’s ELT or MLT schools in Armenia.

2. April 28, 14.00-15.00 (UZ time). FORUM FOR TEACHERS AND PARENTS.

Forum with representatives from the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the topic “How to make education accessible to those who can’t attend school,” in which issues of access to education in the Republic of Uzbekistan and activities held in Uzbekistan to address this issue will be discussed. Also, forum participants can share their opinion and ideas on this topic.

Forum guest: Bakhtiyor Kuchkarov – head of the Department of Children’s Social Support and Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

3. April 29, 14.00-15.00 (UZ time). FORUM FOR STUDENTS

The forum will connect students from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan schools with representatives from the UNESCO National Commission in Uzbekistan on the topic “How to make education accessible to those who can’t attend school.” UNESCO activities on settling this issue in various countries, including Central Asia, will be reviewed. Also, forum participants can offer their ideas and suggestions on the ways to solve this problem.

4. April 18 - 30 - ART CONTEST

As a part of the Education for All Week, School Connectivity announces artwork contest among Uzbekistani students on the topic: “How I Imagine Education for All.”

Students aged 6-17 can take part in the contest. The contest entries will be reviewed according 2 categories:

1st category - under 12 years old

2nd category - above 12 years old

Artworks in which you can depict your ideas about education opportunities and access are accepted to the contest.

The artworks should be sent to contest@connect.uz before April 30, 17.00. In the subject of the message you should indicate for participation in the artwork contest “How I Imagine Education for All.” In the message itself, please indicate your name and surname, grade, school number, region, city and age.
