IREX Awarded Grant for a New Professional Development Program for International Educators

IREX has been awarded a grant by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State to administer the new International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP). ILEP will provide outstanding secondary school teachers from the Near East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States.

IREX will partner with US universities to host the international teachers in Spring 2007 for a semester-long, in-service professional development program on teaching methodology, curriculum development, and educational leadership. American high schools will also host these international educators for professional internships.

IREX is an international nonprofit organization providing leadership and innovative programs to improve the quality of education, strengthen independent media, and foster pluralistic civil society development.
