IREX Announces New Board Chair and Welcomes Two New Members

Former Chair Avis Bohlen and current Chair Ed FouhyIREX is pleased to announce the appointment of the new Chair of its Board of Directors as well as two new board members. On November 9, 2012, Edward M. Fouhy was formally voted in as IREX’s new Board Chair. A career journalist—reporter, news producer, and news executive—for more than 30 years, Mr. Fouhy has won five Emmy awards for his work. He is also the founding executive director of the Pew Center on the States and the Pew Center for Civic Journalism. He has been a member of the IREX board since 2005.

He succeeds Avis T. Bohlen, who served as Chair from 2006-2012. IREX’s President Bob Pearson thanked Ambassador Bohlen for her years of service as Chair and presented her with an award for her leadership on behalf of the organization.

One of the two new IREX board members is Susan King, former vice president for external affairs for Carnegie Corporation of New York. She is now dean of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She is also the school’s John Thomas Kerr Distinguished Professor. Additionally, Ms. King is the co-founder of the International Women’s Media Foundation.

The other new IREX board member is Greg Rigdon, who serves as executive vice president of content acquisition for Comcast Cable. Before joining Comcast, Mr. Rigdon was executive vice president, programming, business development and strategy at Charter Communications. He also previously held senior roles in programming strategy, business affairs, and commerce at AOL.
