IREX announces grant opportunities to support education, media, and civil society projects in Africa and Asia.  Proposals will be considered for projects that strengthen civic engagement, professionalism and independence in media, the quality of and access to basic education, as well as training for professionals in these fields.

Through the IREX Small Grant Fund for Africa and Asia, IREX will award a select number of grants to local organizations for projects addressing: institutional development of civil society organizations or media institutions, women’s empowerment initiatives, training of education professionals, vocational training or other educational programs, journalism training, or media advocacy.

IREX is an international nonprofit organization providing leadership and innovative programs to improve the quality of education, strengthen independent media, and foster pluralistic civil society development. Founded in 1968, IREX has an annual portfolio of $50 million and a staff of over 500 professionals worldwide. IREX and its partner IREX Europe deliver cross-cutting programs and consulting expertise in more than 50 countries.

Request for partnership Dear Sir/Madam, Our Organisation, Centre for Media Education and Development or CEMED, would like to request from you a partnership. ESTABLISHMENT Centre for Media Education and Development or CEMED is a nongovernmental organization (NGO) in accordance with the law of the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is a non-profit making local organisational and apolitical. NAME, LOGO AND VISION The Association is called "Centre for Media Education and Development or CEMED". It has a symbol that symbolizes the development. VISION In modern society, the media institution, in general, is an instrument of education and development of harmonious social life of any nation. The CEMED, as a Media Center, proposes to work with all segments of society to improve the socioeconomic conditions of populations, including Children, Women, Youth, Disabled and Elderly, in close collaboration with Government policy. DURATION AND SEAT The headquarters of this association is established in Conakry, the Urban Commune of Ratoma, and Koloma District. It can be transferred to any other place in the Republic of Guinea on the decision of the General Assembly. The headquarters will be represented elsewhere in the country by the sub offices. The duration of the Association is unlimited. AREAS OF INTERVENTION CEMED areas of interventions are: - Media, Education and Child Protection; - Health; - Gender, Peace, Democracy and Development; - Consulting and Training; - Environment and Agriculture; - Communities development Support. AIM CEMED is an institution which purpose is to develop the ethics of professional journalism; the institution aims to help journalists to be more efficient in the trade and provide a code of moral conduct against some social problems related to human rights, democracy and the development of citizens. The beneficiaries will contribute to the Welfare of the public. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES CEMED is an apolitical and a non-profit NGO, and without discrimination. Its specific objectives are: 1. Be sure to give true information while respecting human dignity: the use of polite terms relating to violence, sex and age; 2. Select information essential for the welfare of the public; 3. Analyze messages before making them public, taking into account age, sex: the collective sensibility of the community in its thinking and acting; 4. Strengthen the respect for the four (4) Great Principles of the Code of Conduct of the National Association of Broadcasters Guinea (ANRG): children's television, indecency, violence, drugs and addiction according to the Guiding Campaigns sponsoring the programming of children TV in accordance with the Code of Ethics required by the National Council of Communication or CNC. 5. Educate civil society on the fight against alcohol and tobacco use among minors and control of advertisements; 6. Awareness of mobile phone companies to improve their production according to the tastes of consumers; 7. Edify managers of media institutions to comply with the ethics of the profession, according to the Seven Canons of Professional Journalism: responsibility, freedom of the press, independence, accuracy, impartiality, fair play and decency. Then, to strengthen the Big Four Principles of the Code of Professional Journalists Society of Guinea (SJPG): - Seek the truth and see its objectivity - Journalists must be honest, just, brave, and better to remain the impartial voice of the people. - Minimize the damage - the journalist should know how to treat information with care by unbiased analysis of government policies and actions of social facts experienced by people; - Working independently - Journalists must be free of any interest other than the right to give truthful information; - Be responsible - Journalists must know their duties to the public. Finally, alert mass media managers to obey the rules of the Association of Producers and Distributors of Films of Guinea (APDFG). This Code therefore prohibits the presentation of scenes, episodes and plays that deliberately excite sex, cause aggressive or violent passions and pollute the social psychology of youth; and the most intimate parts of the body must be hidden: a. avoid showing pornographic films; b. adopt a decent dress, never wear transparent or translucent obscene dances provoking passion is forbidden, as is the projection of war movies! Thus, before any film production, one must have permission from the APDFG. 7. Ensure the protection of the ecosystem and the social environment; 8. Create and promote student press of Guinea or PRESSUG; 9. Commit to national development agenda and improve the social living conditions of the populations: Make lobbying and advocacy in preserving civil peace, of Human Rights, Democracy and the vitality of communities.
