The Intersection of Past, Present, and Future

Yuliya Melnyk, a 2005 Muskie fellow from Ukraine who is studying for a Master's degree in Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia, performed her summer internship in the Newspaper and Current Periodical Reading Room of the Library of Congress. Melnyk's responsibilities included reviewing bound collections of Russian newspapers from 1801 to the present, describing their quality and historical or journalistic importance, and providing a determination as to whether they were significant enough to be included in the Library's historic events collections. During the internship, Melnyk learned more about the history of her country. She wrote about discoveries made during her internship in this article, "The Intersection of Past, Present, and Future," published in the Missouri School of Journalism's Graduate Studies Newsletter (PDF).
