Fellow at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Writes and Performs Play on Women’s Changing Role in Azerbaijan

Farida Aghammadova, a Muskie fellow from Azerbaijan currently working towards obtaining her Master’s degree in Education at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln recently wrote, directed and performed a two-person play that illustrated many of the cultural and social features of her home country. On February 16, 2006 Farida and a colleague presented this play in front of faculty, staff, and students from the College of Education and Human Sciences. Farida played the role of a modern Azerbaijani woman while her colleague played the role of a female poet named Gandjavi, a famous historical figure in Azerbaijan. The play centered around the dialogue between these two characters across the centuries to illustrate the historical and social evolution of Azerbaijan. In addition, the play helped bring to the attention of many at the University of Nebraska this insight into Azerbaijan through the medium of drama.
