Exchange Students Give Back to Host Community

GLOBAL UGRAD FELLOWS EXPERIENCE SERVICE AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

In Rochester, New York, Global UGRAD fellows Pavel Petrosyan from Uzbekistan, Ainura Dochshanova from Kazakhstan, Ilya Slavko from Russia, and Volha Vasilchanka from Belarus jumped into community service upon their arrival to Nazareth College of Rochester. Volunteering at Saint’s Place, an organization that provides support to legal refugees who settle in Rochester, the fellows helped to arrange and label clothing donations. They also worked with the local organization Sojourner House to organize its library and conduct a clean-up of the playground. The Sojourner House provides transitional housing for women and children who are committed to overcoming homelessness, addiction, and abuse.

GLOBAL UGRAD FELLOWS AT WARTBURG COLLEGE GIVE BACK TO HOST COMMUNITY

Students at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa kicked off their first few weeks in the US with more than 15 hours of community service in their host community. Ainura Musulumova from Kyrgyzstan, Yukothon Metinova from Uzbekistan, and Gulandom Rabieva from Tajikistan hit the ground running volunteering at the Waverly Food Bank, where they worked together with community members to pack Elderly Nutrition Boxes, a program which provides over 700 boxes to elderly and disabled residents in low-income housing throughout Northeast Iowa each month.
