Government and business have become so data-driven that data literacy is essential to understanding their activities and assuring accountability. Fortunately, such analysis is getting easier for journalists and the public at large. The panelists will present a new generation of low-tech data analysis methods, a friendly tool to mine thousands of pages of text documents, and case studies of government corruption exposed through data.
This event is sponsored by IREX's Center for Collaborative Technology, which identifies practical tech tools and methodologies and their effective applications for international development.
Panelists:
• Anders Pedersen, Community Coordinator at Open Knowledge Foundation and a trainer at School of Data
• Andrew Pendleton, web developer at the Sunlight Foundation
• Jonathan Stray, Fellow at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University
Moderator: Leon Morse, Deputy Director for Media, Technology, and Civil Society Division at IREX, and Managing Editor of the Media Sustainability Index
