2011 U.S. Scholars Photo Contest Results

Congratulations to Alan DeYoung, the winner of this year's U.S. Scholars Photo Contest!

Alan DeYoung was a 2009-2010 Embassy Policy Specialist (EPS). His research project is entitled "Gender and Academic Subculture(s) in Contemporary Tajik Universitites."

The winning picture (on the left) depicts Alan as an honored guest at a university student's wedding celebration in Asht, Tajikistan.

The photo contest runner-up was Gary Roseman, a 2010-2011 Embassy Policy Specialist (EPS) fellow in Kyrgyzstan, researching "Trade and Investment Prospects in Kyrgyzstan." His photo depicts a visit to the Aigul Textile Factory in Bishkek and shows Gary holding a sample from a large order for police uniforms that the firm is completing.

We would like to thank all the current IREX scholars, who participated in this contest, and shared images of their research experience in the field.Eligible US Scholar Photo Contest participants were alumni of the IARO, STG, and US Embassy Policy Specialist Program (EPS) fellowships.

All of these programs are part of IREX's long-standing support for research and exchange in Europe and Eurasia during the past 40 years. Over 6,000 American scholars have participated in the programs  since their beginning.
