Soccer is the most popular sport in many countries, and for the children in Tyr, Lebanon, that is no different. However, soccer fields are few and far between, and the rare and valuable playing space can only be reserved for a fee leaving the local youth few places to gather and play. Now they have a field of their own. With funding and support from the One Community program, the Cadmous Christian School and the Islamic Charity Organization gathered local Christian, Sunni and Shia children to build a soccer field on the grounds of the school.

Thanks to a small grant from the One Community program, a Catholic priest and a Sunni sheikh in Saida, Lebanon joined forces to write and produce a documentary film on the issue of child labor in the community.

What started as an online Facebook group in Tripoli is now a thriving network of youth civic organizations making a positive impact in post-conflict cities throughout the Middle East.

Youth journalist Samir Sabbagh is changing perceptions about the roles youth and religious leaders can play in promoting peace in south Lebanon. Working with the Lebanese youth organization Nahar Ashabab, Samir participates in IREX’s One Community program that provides interfaith training to religious leaders from across Lebanon and supports their interfaith community development projects.
