US Host Great Basis Watch

In honor of Earth Day 2013 and the theme: The Face of Climate Change, IREX is pleased to recognize the work of our Community Solutions leaders in the field of environmental issues. Over the past two years, 18 environmental leaders from 13 countries have come to the US for practical hands on experience and leadership training.

Communities in Bangladesh struggle to maintain an adequate supply of freshwater.

On March 22, 2012, the international community will celebrate World Water Day, an annual campaign designed to draw attention to the importance of sustainably managing water resources across the globe. This year’s campaign focuses on the relationship between water sustainability and food security. IREX is pleased to share the story of two Community Solutions Program (CSP) leaders from Bangladesh dedicated to helping their country achieve these goals.

Tucked away on a quiet campus that extends along the Mississippi coast, Taibur Rahman lectures to a group of researchers, practitioners and students from The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Lab. Rahman, a Bangladeshi spending four months in the United States working with the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium as a 2011 Community Solutions Program (CSP) leader, is presenting on economic development in Bangladesh and the country’s increasing vulnerability to climate change.
