Dr. Joyce Corbett, a museum curator and independent researcher of folk art, received an IREX travel grant to Romania in 1976 to conduct research on folk costumes and textiles. Dr. Corbett recently shared with IREX about her how her research has evolved to investigate cross-cultural influences across national boundaries and where her research has taken her since her first trip to Eastern Europe. |

We’re going to celebrate International Women’s Day this week, and when we do, the ceremonies will focus on outstanding women. These women will be heroes for all of us - every man, woman and child around the world. When women are able to play more useful and important roles in our societies, everyone benefits, and our horizons keep expanding. |

Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) is a serious and significant dimension of the conflict in Syria. The Syria Justice and Accountability Center (SJAC) recognizes the unique challenges this presents and is prioritizing training and documentation around SGBV. Documenting these crimes is important, but unfortunately they are especially difficult to prosecute. |

Laura Steinbach, has a new priority for her school: global education. As an administrator for Rawson Saunders School, a school exclusively for dyslexic children in Central Texas, she is busy overseeing everything from bus schedules to curriculum. Now she is adding to her to-do list: Steinbach is supporting one of her teachers, Tina Thammavongsa-Brunson, as she travels to Brazil as part of the Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) Fellowship. |

I just participated, via Skype, in the Starobelsk Library's grand celebration of getting computers from the Bibliomist project. It was wonderful to see the library filled with friends and people from the community. A special day. |

With the support of a tuition assistance program, Aiman Idegeeva now gives back to the community that never gave up on her — an orphanage in Kazakhstan. In exchange for a grant that allows her to attend college, she helps inspire orphaned children to work hard, seek education and envision a better future. |
