Donors and implementers who assisted Chileans in the aftermath of the 2010, 8.8-magnitude earthquake recently stood on stage at an event in Santiago organized by the Telecentre.org Foundation in front of representatives from 50 telecentre networks of 100 countries, to share ways information and communication technologies (ICT) helped ease the pain of the disaster. As is typical in crisis situations,utilities and communications were down, government offices were closed, if not destroyed, and media outlets were not broadcasting, leaving a field of misinformation open and alarming an already distraught population. |

Religious leaders of various faiths in Lebanon recently put doctrinal differences aside to focus on peace and development in their communities. Although the country’s civil war ended more than two decades ago, strong divisions and episodes of violent clashes along religious lines still exist. The rare public gathering of local Sunni, Shiite and Christian leaders was a result of IREX’s One Community Project and signaled a positive step toward peace for citizens of conflict-prone cities like Baalbak, Tripoli and Tyr. |

On March 10, 2011 the Bosniak radio station Omega 3, based in the southern city of Prizren, established direct and live links with KOSMA, the Kosovo Serb network of five radio stations. |

Through a process of community dialogue and advocacy, Salado is instrumental in re-establishing measures of peace in Puntland, the semi-autonomous northeastern zone of Somalia. |
