Iraq University Linkages Program participants

Emerging from over a decade of war, young people across Iraq are renewing their aspirations for their own futures and the future of their country. In August, a brave group of Iraqi undergraduates arrived in the US for intensive English language classes, with high hopes of advancing their career ambitions.

My trip to Tobago was like any journey to a lush tropical paradise - a long plane ride to another planet. First it is the hot moist air that clamps around your whole being - then it is the brilliant green-blue world that fills your vision - and then the adventure begins. I came to reconnect with Ms. Essie Parks, the Community Solutions leader that spent four months with my organization, Eco-Cycle Inc., in Boulder, Colorado to learn how to improve the waste management system on her home island of Tobago in the Caribbean.

As the number of democracies increases globally, citizens worldwide look to the U.S. political system as a model of peaceful democracy. Many view the U.S. system as a successful functioning democracy, with citizens playing an active role and flexing a legitimate voice in politics and the selection of leaders. Few outsiders get the chance to participate in the American election process.

What began as a small youth-led project has grown into a new way of doing things at Tambov State Technical University, and the start of successful careers for hundreds of youth in the region.

Meet Moses Sanga, of Uganda, recently featured in a New York Times article about his organic fuel venture, Eco-Fuel Africa. Sanga, once an accountant, is now an innovator in alternative cooking fuels.
