The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in Pakistan (Global UGRAD – Pakistan) is now accepting applications from two and four-year institutions to host outstanding leaders from Pakistan during the Fall 2012 academic semester.

Experience volunteering in a kids' center in Iowa inspired an undergraduate to help youth in Pakistan. Fawad co-founded the Innovative Youth Forum (IYF) in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, using the leadership skills he developed during his semester at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. “Through my work at the Alley Kid’s Center in the U.S. I did more in one semester than I did in the past twenty years.” explains Fawad. |

This week Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Ann Stock welcomed nearly 100 undergraduate students from Pakistan to the United States. Participants of the Global UGRAD-Pakistan program, the students will be studying this spring at universities and colleges around the country. |

IREX is pleased to announce the winners of the Fall 2011 Cultural Passport to America competition for the Global UGRAD-Pakistan program. Sonia (University of Arkansas), Maira (Eastern Washington University), Marbaila (Humboldt State University), and Durreshawar (SUNY-Plattsburgh) were selected as exemplary cultural ambassadors because of their participation in a diverse array of cultural events and their regular reflections through blog posts sharing their experiences. |

IREX extends its congratulations to the winners of the Fall 2011 Global UGRAD-Pakistan program video competition, “A Day in the Life of a Global UGRAD-Pakistan Fellow.” Hammad, studying at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Hassan, studying at Arkansas State University, won for their outstanding videos showcasing their experiences at a U.S. college or university and what they have learned about American culture and values. |

“As someone coming on exchange in another country, I prepared myself to expect anything,” said Masooma, a Global UGRAD-Pakistan participant studying at Montclair State University in New Jersey. Masooma echoed many of her peers preparing to meet their American friendship families. Others wondered about how best to represent their country to strangers or worried that they would be imposing on busy families. |

Ayesha is using the community service skills she honed in the US to help some of the neediest in Pakistan: children with cancer. For the past year, Ayesha worked at the Shaukat Khanam Cancer Hospital and Research Center in Lahore, bringing entertainment into the lives of chronically ill children while learning more about medical research. As a biotechnology major, she blends her passion for helping children with her intellectual curiosity and career goals. |

Nearly 100 young ambassadors from Pakistan arrived to begin their cultural experience in the United States. The fellows will spend the fall academic semester at 51 different colleges and universities in 31 states. |

A group of teachers from Pakistan arrived in the US recently and were welcomed into the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA). TEA brings outstanding secondary school teachers from around the globe to the United States to further develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. |
