As we approach World Press Freedom Day on May 3 and consider its theme of 21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers, our thoughts naturally turn to the Middle East. Over the last four months, citizens there took to the streets to demand change. We saw two seemingly entrenched regimes toppled. We see several others on the edge of collapse. And we see how news and information has broken free of the control of these regimes. |

On March 10, 2011 the Bosniak radio station Omega 3, based in the southern city of Prizren, established direct and live links with KOSMA, the Kosovo Serb network of five radio stations. |

Salado Mohamed is a prominent negotiator in Puntland, Somalia, a deeply patriarchal society where women’s literacy is half that of men’s and their presence can rarely be found in the public arena. Through a process of community dialogue and advocacy, Salado is instrumental in re-establishing measures of peace in Puntland, the semi-autonomous northeastern zone of Somalia. |
