 The Novateca program is giving many Moldovans free access to computers and the Internet. Organizers recently inaugurated six regional training centers throughout Moldova where librarians are learning to help patrons make use of the technology. By the end of 2013 more than 350,000 will benefit from free public access to the Internet. |

 Pregnancy, early marriage, school fees, risk of sexual violence? What are the barriers for girls and boys going to school? As the education community envisions post-2015 Millennium Development Goals, IREX surveyed its pool of teacher-leaders alumni around the world to get a better picture of the ways gender impacts education. What impacts girls’ participation in school the most? What particular factors affect boys? Over 200 secondary school teachers from 45 countries responded to our questions. Here are some of the findings from our snapshot survey. |

 Dr. Joyce Corbett, a museum curator and independent researcher of folk art, received an IREX travel grant to Romania in 1976 to conduct research on folk costumes and textiles. Dr. Corbett recently shared with IREX about her how her research has evolved to investigate cross-cultural influences across national boundaries and where her research has taken her since her first trip to Eastern Europe. |

 An innovative partnership between IREX and Visa Europe has resulted in more than 2,300 Romanians trained in the fundamentals of financial literacy in just a few short months. By learning about personal budgeting, savings, managing credit and debit, and other topics, the participants are now able to make more informed choices about their futures. |

 When post-election violence broke out in Cote d'Ivoire, in April of 2010, Aka Blehou, knew that he must continue to teach, no matter the circumstances. Blehou, an English teacher, and current Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Fellow recalls: “During the conflict, the village school was closed, but I gathered the students there, and I taught them twice a week, unofficially… so when the school opened, they would not forget.” |

 Five U.S. institutions of higher education are welcoming 74 international educators from 13 countries who will help globalize their campuses. While in the US for five months on the International Leaders in Education program (ILEP), the teachers will further develop their expertise in their subject area, enhance their teaching skills, increase their knowledge of the U.S., and share aspects of their cultures. |
