Transnational criminal networks, and the domestic corruption that feeds them, represent one of the major foreign policy challenges facing the United States today.
In Rural Romania, Youth Educate Their Peers on Public Health Issues June 18, 2012 by Ana-Maria Sinitean Even in this day and age, in a country as developed as Romania, misinformation about HIV/AIDS continues to exist in the rural areas. A group of Roma and non-Roma youth took it upon themselves to shed light on the issue for their peers. Roma and non-Roma youth, aged 14-18, organized a training on the social and biological aspects of the disease for other youth in their school in a new series of workshops on community issues. The nomination is a direct reflection of the professionalism, selfless contribution, determination and heartfelt devotion of the entire staff at IREX’s Biblionet Romania program, and to all of the public librarians who work with us on a daily basis to empower Romanians by providing free access to information at the nation’s public libraries. This accomplishment is not about one person, but rather the collective efforts we have brought about to improve the lives of Romanians through access to the internet and improved library services that reflect community needs.
